Recent attacks force another 50,000 people to flee
After almost eight years of conflict and recurring cyclones, the province of Cabo Delgado in Mozambique is once again facing a crisis: more than 50,000 people have fled attacks by non-state armed groups.
The scene is harrowing: burned-down villages, crowds of people fleeing on foot, including children, pregnant women and elderly people. In the last two weeks, 50,000 people have joined those already displaced before to Chiúre Sede. Around 60% are children (Source IOM).
SolidarMed has been working in Mozambique for more than 30 years to establish a functioning healthcare system in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
This is a forgotten humanitarian disaster that has been recurring in various places for years, as it has now in Chiúre.

Mobile health teams soon to be deployed
SolidarMed's health team is working tirelessly to ensure that both internally displaced persons and the local population have access to healthcare. They focus on improving mother and child health, preventing infections and improving triage and treatment of children in emergency rooms. To respond to the current emergency, two mobile health teams will travel to the most affected areas every week and respond directly to urgent medical needs.

Cholera – a consequence that must be contained
Displaced families are particularly vulnerable to cholera and other communicable diseases. SolidarMed is therefore extending its humanitarian aid with support from SDC, among others to respond to cholera outbreaks. This will mitigate the serious consequences of the crisis and improve access to hygiene and healthcare for the affected population.
