Our project countries

SolidarMed is currently active in eight countries in southern and eastern Africa

  • Mozambique
  • Lesotho
  • Tanzania
  • Zimbabwe
  • Zambia
  • Kenya
  • South Africa
  • Mozambique

Mozambique is one of the poorest countries in the world. SolidarMed works in a targeted way to relieve pressure on the ailing health system and deliver emergency aid.

    Mosambik

    Capital: Maputo

    Population: 32,969 millions

    Area: 799'380 km2

    HIV prevalence: 11,6 %

    Under-5 mortality rate: 66/1000

    Maternal mortality: 127/100'000

  • Lesotho

Lesotho is a small mountainous country surrounded by South Africa. SolidarMed delivers medical care to remote villages in the north of the country.

    Lesotho

    Capital: Maseru

    Population: 2,305 Million

    Area: 30'355 km2

    HIV prevalence: 19,3 %

    Under-5 mortality rate: 72/1000

    Maternal mortality: 566/100'000

  • Tanzania

Healthcare provision for rural populations is still inadequate in East Africa’s largest country. SolidarMed is therefore working to promote access to healthcare services in remote areas, protect people from diseases like tuberculosis, and improve newborn survival rates.

    Tansania

    Capital: Dodoma

    Population: 65,497 millions

    Area: 945'087 km2

    HIV prevalence: 4,3 %

    Under-5 mortality rate: 41/1000

    Maternal mortality: 238/100'000

  • Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe’s health system is suffering from decades of economic decline, an exodus of skilled workers, and a growing number of extreme weather events. SolidarMed works to ensure better access to quality healthcare for rural areas in the south-east of the country.

    Simbabwe

    Capital: Harare

    Population: 16,32 Millionen

    Area: 399'757 km2

    HIV prevalence: 11 %

    Under-5 mortality rate: 48/1000

    Maternal mortality: 357/100'000

  • Zambia

In Zambia there is only one qualified doctor for every 10,000 people. And 90% of this small pool of doctors work in large towns and cities. One reason for this is a lack of housing and unappealing working and training conditions in rural areas.

    Sambia

    Capital: Lusaka

    Population: 20,017 millions

    Area: 752'614 km2

    HIV prevalence: 10.8 %

    Under-5 mortality rate: 56/1000

    Maternal mortality: 135/100'000

  • Kenya

As home to 42 ethnic groups, with different cultures, languages and religions, Kenya is a true multi-ethnic country. Despite its economic growth, a large section of the population lives below the poverty line.

    Kenia

    Capital: Nairobi

    Population: 54,027 Millionen

    Area: 582'646 km2

    HIV prevalence: 3,7 %

    Under-5 mortality rate: 41/1000

    Maternal mortality: 530/100'000

  • South Africa

In economic terms, South Africa is in a better overall position than its neighbours but it is also the world’s most unequal country. With a prevalence rate of 18.9 percent, it is one of the most HIV/AIDS-affected countries in the world.

    Südafrika

    Capital: Capetown

    Population: 59,893 millions

    Area: 1'220'000 km2

    HIV prevalence: 17,8 %

Infant mortality under 5 years: 35/1000

    Maternal Mortality: 127/100'000
