Deadly but well treatable disease

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cholera is an acute diarrhoeal disease that can kill within hours if left untreated. WHO estimates that up to four million people contract cholera every year, of whom 143,000 die. Mild cases can be treated with a rehydration solution, while severe cases need intravenous fluids and antibiotics. To prevent the spread of cholera, SolidarMed works together with the local organization Wiwanana in Mozambique. The organization connects trained volunteers, the population and the health system. In this way, they succeed in sensitizing people to hygiene measures and containing the spread of cholera.
